• Great Yarmouth New Local Plan Options Consultation

    6th January to 17th February 2023

    Great Yarmouth Borough Council is preparing a new Local Plan to replace the existing Core Strategy and Local Plan Part 2.  The new Local Plan will set out a strategy for the development of the Borough over the period to 2041.   It will set out the amount of new development needed and will determine where that development will go and how it should be delivered.  The new Local Plan will also contain planning policies that will be used in determining planning applications. The Local Plan will take into account the policies of existing and emerging Neighbourhood Plans and set a framework for future Neighbourhood Plans.

    We are writing to invite you to participate in a consultation to help inform the new Local Plan.  This consultation aims to get your views on some of the key matters the new Local Plan will need to contain. The consultation comprises a series of questions to help the Council prepare the Local Plan.

    The consultation seeks views on how much development we should be planning for and where that development should go.  The consultation also asks questions on what infrastructure is needed and what planning policies we should have to manage new development.

    The consultation can be viewed here: https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/planning-consultations

    Comments can be made by using the interactive document available at the above link.

    We are also holding a drop-in event in the Assembly Room at the Town Hall on 26th January from 4pm to 8pm where members of the public can come and talk to planning officers about the consultation and give their views.

    Please ensure all comments are received by 5pm on 17th February 2023.

    If you have any questions about the consultation, please contact the Strategic Planning team using the contact details which can be found here: https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/contactus/strategic-planning

  • Broads Plan 2022-2027

    Broads Plan 2022-2027

    The new Broads Plan 2022 – 2027 , the strategic management plan for the Broads National Park.

    The Broads Authority works with key partners and many others with an interest in the future of the Broads to implement and update the plan.  Broads Plan 2022-2027 was produced following a consultative review of the 2017 plan and consideration of the key issues, challenges and opportunities facing the Broads. While we must be realistic, particularly within the current economic climate, we have high aspirations for what we can achieve together for the benefit of our natural and cultural environment, our local communities, and our millions of visitors.

    Broads Plan 2022-2027 sets out a long-term vision for the Broads and guides the decisions that affect this special wetland landscape. Strategic actions are set out under six themes:

    • Responding to climate change and flood risk;
    • Improving landscapes for biodiversity and agriculture;
    • Maintaining and enhancing the navigation;
    • Protecting landscape character and the historic environment;
    • Promoting understanding and enjoyment;
    • Connecting and inspiring communities.

  • Public Space Protection Orders – Dog Control

    In 2017 the Borough Council introduced Public Space Protection Order No.3 (PSPO) covering the issue of dog control and dog fouling. A PSPO can be in place for a period of three years after which a review is legally required to take place. Consequently, this PSPO covering dog control is now due for review.
    Since the implementation of the Dog PSPO, several successful prosecutions of offenders have occurred and anecdotal evidence from Officers who enforce it would suggest that the PSPO has proven appropriate to the work they undertake. However, complaints are still routinely received regarding dog control and fouling issues and as a result Officers do feel it is appropriate that these control measures are kept in place and the PSPO is renewed.
    The Borough Council has now started a public consultation providing residents the opportunity to comment on the control measures that are currently in place. These views and comments from this consultation will help shape whether the PSPO is renewed and/or amended.
    We are also inviting partner agencies and Councils, charities and other bodies who have an
    interest in dogs to take part in this consultation and to add their views on what has been
    proposed. To take part in the consultation please visit
    https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/pspo3-dog-control-consultation

    The public consultation will run from 24th October 2022 until 20th November 2022. Therefore, please ensure if the Parish Council wishes to provide any comment you do so before this date.
